Students must be at least 15 years old by the last day of class.
Students must pass a pre-requisite swimming skills test prior to registering for the lifeguard course.
The required skills are:
- 300 yard continuous swim consisting of front crawl and breaststroke
- 2 minutes of treading water, legs only
- Timed swim event: Swim 20 yards, surface dive to the deepest point of the facility to retrieve a 10lb brick, resurface and swim on back while holding brick with two hands on chest, swim back 20 yards, place brick on the side of the pool and climb out without assistance of ladder or stairs
Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive a certification for: Lifeguard, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, and First Aid. This certification is good for two years. To maintain the certification, you must complete a recertification process prior to the expiration of your current certification.
